Starting September 2019 – String Band returns. This group is for students playing at a book 3+ level who like to fiddle and explore music outside the classical tradition.

We especially want capable violin players who also play another instrument such as viola, mandolin, guitar, or piano. If you don’t double one of these instruments, there may be a chance for you to learn a tune on one of them. This is a collaborative band where the players will learn tunes, write their own tunes, and arrange tunes by others.

As your leader, I will teach you the tunes, arrange tunes to fit the group, and help you write your own music for the group. We will try to emphasize our own original music as much as possible while learning a number of tunes from Irish, Scottish, American, and Scandinavian traditions.

From July 13-19 2020, this group will travel to Kaustinen, Finland, to take part in the Kaustinen Folk Music Festival (pictured above.)

String Band will meet on Thursday nights from 6:15-7:15 in Lexington starting 9/12/2019.
